Skin Care Tips Estheticians

Finally, the long, torturous winter is over (almost) and spring can be seen at the horizon rushing towards us. Finally, we can open our windows, feel the Sun giving warm kisses on our cheeks and winds caressing our hair as we hear birds chirping.

While there is a warmth bubbling in our chests by imagining what we can do outdoors during spring, wait; hold up, have you thought about how your skin will take the transition from winter to spring?

Skincare is a crucial part of our lifestyles and one which is always on the back of our head no matter what we’re doing. Isn’t that right? And while a lot will be changing as the season changes, your skincare needs to be included in that as well.

If you’re unsure how to take care of your skin during spring and make the much-needed winter to spring transition in terms of skincare, this article is for you! Here, we have gathered a few spring skincare tips estheticians swear by while transitioning from winter to spring. So let’s get started!

Tip #1: Scrub Winter Away!

Our skins tend to get vulnerable to micro tears and damage while over-exfoliating during the winter months. However, you need to do just that as spring comes. A Beverly Hills dermatologist, Ava Shamban suggests having light micro-dermabrasion and following it with a moisturizing mask will be better for your skin.

Shamban also suggests masking up your skin with hydrating masks 2-3 times a week to ensure your skin remains plumped and hydrated with the much-coveted dewy glow.

Tip #2: Take Off The Excess Load From Your Visage

While winters demand a loaded moisturizer to combat the harsh winds, spring is lighter on the skin and allows it to breathe the fresh air. Therefore, Joshua Zeichner, NYC dermatologist suggests you swap your heavy creams with lighter lotions.

Patricia Wexler, M.D., another New York-based dermatologist suggests you include more hyaluronic-based and water-based formulas into your skincare. Since our skins are able to retain more moisture during spring/summer as compared to winter, water-based formulas will do wonders for your skin and make it look super-hydrated.

Tip #3: Sun Protection Is A Must

Let’s face it, we all were pretty lenient on ourselves when it came to applying sunscreen during the winter months. However, it is important that you wear sunscreen especially during the summer months, says Dr. Engelman. Sun exposure for as little as 10-15 minutes every day may add up significantly over the months and result in excessive sun damage, including hyperpigmentation, photoaging and wrinkles.

For maximum protection from Sun’s damaging rays, consider applying a sunscreen that has a SPF of 30-50, says Dr. Engelman.

Tip #4: Go Crazy With Antioxidants

While a healthy dose of antioxidants is necessary all year-round for optimal functioning of the body, you need antioxidants more in the spring/summer season. More exposure to sun in the summer can result in photo damage, as mentioned above; a healthy dose of antioxidants may help alleviate this damage.

Moreover, topical dose of antioxidants, such as that in serums, toners and moisturizers is also recommended in the spring. For better results, apply an antioxidant-rich serum underneath your sunscreen before you start off with your day to prevent photo damage.

Conclusion

If you haven’t already started transitioning your skincare from that of winter to spring, do it ASAP! Hopefully, these few tips will help you maintain a dewy glow on your face all spring long.
